Dr James Yu is a board-certified Interventional Pain Specialist and Consultant Anaesthetist with Fellowships from the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA), and Interventional Pain Practice of the World Institute of Pain (FIPP). He has clinical expertise in medical and interventional management of chronic pain, including radiofrequency ablation, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal pump implantation.
Dr Yu is the Medical Director of Advanced Spine & Pain (ASP), a clinic with a number of multi-disciplinary pain centres across Sydney. He also serves as the Medical Director of ASP Rehab and the REGAIN Multidisciplinary Pain Management Program. Dr Yu delivers gold standard interdisciplinary pain management approach to chronic pain patients to facilitate better recovery and self-management of pain through the REGAIN program.
His passion for clinical research and evidence-based practice inspired him to establish Australian Medical Research (AMR), a private clinical research facility that works closely with pharmaceutical and medical device companies to conduct high quality clinical studies in Sydney. Dr Yu has been a primary investigator for clinical trials involving novel spinal cord stimulators, intra-discal injections, and pain medications.
Recognised by his peers for his expertise, Dr Yu is an examiner and training unit assessor for the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM). He has recently been appointed by the FPM as a supervisor for its pilot program to teach interventional pain procedures to pain fellowship trainee.
He is an Executive Board Member of the Neuromodulation Society of Australia and New Zealand (NSANZ) where he has organised and moderated the annual NSANZ cadaver workshops for the past four years.
